The Seattle-based Cascade Chapter of the Sierra Club wanted a new logo when it changed its name and scope to become the Washington State Chapter. This logo expresses Sierra Club's motto of "explore, enjoy and protect the planet," as well as the statewide goals of clean air, clean water and recreation.
